Proven Technology

Our proprietary gas fermentation platform, (R)evolve™, uses carbon dioxide and hydrogen to enable our microbes to produce a range of high value products. Our sustainable and scalable feedstocks strengthen our competitive edge in the global food and feed ingredients markets. This technology base enables us to produce products like Proton with a dramatically smaller carbon footprint than other products on the market.

Drax

The UK’s largest single site renewable electricity generator and pioneer of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (BECCUS). Drax announced its world-leading ambition to be carbon negative by 2030 and has been working with Deep Branch to explore the feasibility of using its carbon dioxide emissions to make proteins for sustainable animal feed products.

Deep Branch

Experts in recycling industrial CO₂ into cost-competitive protein for high-value, sustainable animal feed. The work of REACT-FIRST centres around the use of microbes to convert CO₂ directly from industrial emissions into Proton™ produced by Deep Branch. Using feed industry-defined data and advanced robotics, this project aims to further improve the strong nutritional profile of Proton™ and sustainably disrupt the UK's aquaculture and poultry industries.

Proton: a purer protein

Proton is Deep Branch’s single cell protein developed for the animal feed industry. Made from locally sourced ingredients, it has a bespoke nutritional profile produced from microbes grown on clean and sustainable carbon dioxide. Proton provides security, transparency and traceability and is 60% less carbon-intensive than conventional proteins. The commercialisation of Proton will tackle the climate emergency and reduce the food industry’s impact on biodiversity loss, as the protein-rich ingredient has no arable land requirements.

Animal feed made from recycled carbon secures €2.5M European Innovation Council Accelerator Funding

Deep Branch secured further investment to scale up sustainable generation of protein that could transform food production and supply chains. Complementing the REACT-FIRST project, the company is turning industrial emissions into novel protein sources for animal feed and now, with EIC Accelerator funding of €2.5 million the company will be able to scale the production process.
